This book had me all in my feelings! There is mystery, suspense, and a slow-burn romance that made my heart beat double-time. Aspen and her daughter Cady moved to Cedar Ridge to start a new life—they’ve found friends who have become family, and a loving and accepting community. When rescuing an injured deer outside their farm, they meet Roan, a quiet and brooding parks and wildlife officer who is sent to assist. Under the guise of coming to check on the deer housed in Aspen’s barn, Roan develops an interest in this little family. When the secrets of the past disrupt the new life Aspen has built, Roan finds he is more emotionally involved than he wants to be. I’m not sure I’ve read a story about two characters who needed each other more than Aspen and Roan. This romance is perfect for fans of Lucy Score’s Things We Left Behind

A Dish Best Served Hot

The Vega Family is back with more drama from the patriarch, Papo—whose antics had me grinning and shaking my head in amusement. The second book in the Vega Family Love Stories series (which is an easy stand-alone read) focuses on second-chance love between Saint and Lola. Initially brought together to rein in their prank-throwing grandfathers, these ex-high school sweethearts soon find out they will be seeing more than they want of each other. The tension between Saint and Lola can be cut with a knife, but for the sake of their family and community, they have to find a way to work out their differences and long-held resentments. I really enjoyed the different elements this story touches upon: social justice advocacy, dealing with different types of trauma, and the process of new beginnings. This romance thoughtfully hits on important topics while still providing humor, making it an entertaining read.

The characters are so well developed, you absolutely want to know them in real life—and the storyline is layered, but not overly complex. Enemies-to-lovers with heavy banter, grumpy-sunshine, and small-town romance—all of our favorite tropes are here! You just have to check this one out. This is the first book in the Lakefront Billionaires series, and I can’t wait for the next one.
