Happy Place
by Emily Henry
Emily Henry tops our list for the second year in a row. Happy Place not only has a beautiful, vibrant cover, but an immersive storyline to match. One of the things I love most about Henry’s writing is the sarcastic wit she brings to her characters. There is no shortage of snappy responses and quick-witted one-liners that make her books so much fun to read. More than yourstandardsecond-chance love romance, Happy Place stands out from Henry’s other novels by not only focusing on the relationship between Harriet and Wyn—the couple who haven’t told their friends about their breakup—but also the dynamic between their close-knit circle of long-time friends. Harriet and Wyn are not the only ones who seem to be holding on to a secret—when the group gathers for their annual vacation, everyone can sense the energy is not quite right. This is more than a rom-com—it is about the beauty, pain, and joy that comes with biological families, chosen families, growing up and apart, and how as adults we handle and deal with this thing called life.
